Volunteer Opportunities

Bloodmobile Greeters are the first people our donors see at blood drives. They reassure those who are nervous, make each donor feel welcome, assist with filling out the donor history questionnaire, maintain the order of arrivals and answer general questions. Greeters are an essential part of our success in blood drives and are very much in demand. Shifts can last from four to six hours and are usually outside throughout locations in San Diego.

Canteen Hosts are responsible for welcoming those who have just donated, serving refreshments and monitoring donors for reactions. We are looking for friendly, outgoing people who enjoy interacting with our donors. Canteen hosts serve at five locations throughout the county in four hour shifts.

Health Fair Representatives oversee information tables at health fairs held at companies, campuses and organizations throughout San Diego. They provide educational handouts and answer general questions about blood donations. Hours and locations vary.

Clerical/Special Project Volunteers work on assignments in various departments at our headquarters throughout the year.

Student Volunteer Program

Students must be at least 17 years old and able to work a minimum of 25 hours with at least two shifts a month to receive academic credit. Complete the student volunteer application and email it to our Manager, Partner Relations at leagan@sandiegobloodbank.

Student Canteen Hosts are responsible for welcoming those who have just donated, serving refreshments and monitoring donors for reactions. We are looking for friendly, outgoing people who enjoy interacting with our donors. Student canteen hosts are required to attend an orientation before starting and may serve at one of five locations throughout the county in four hour shifts.

Special Event Volunteers assist our staff with special events. There is an annual 5K Walk/Run and a number of signature blood drives throughout the year. Events may be outdoors and may involve physical labor and/or walking. An orientation is not required.
